Rules without Relationship = Rebellion

Dads, if you are trying to guide your children and get them to obey you, you must ask yourself some questions. Have you earned the right to be their dad? Have you put in the time and added anything to their emotional love tank? If there has been no relationship, children will not do what you say just because you are their birth father. Everyday, you must work to earn their respect. They will listen to you and trust your word when they respect you. When you try to set up rules about homework, going to church or other areas, they usually rebel because there has been no relationship of trusting your word that has been established.

Are you dad, or just another immature man in their life? Do your kids spend time raising you? Are they constantly saying, "Dad when will you stop getting drunk", or "Dad when will you stop getting high". This backward relationship should not be. YOU ARE DAD! You should be raising your kids; your kids should not be raising you. This can be your time to turn seeds that were destined for evil into something that is not only good but great!

"Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good". Titus 2:6-7.

Husbands and fathers who are good examples of living for Christ are important role models for young men who need to see how it is done.
